Waiting for the bus

Surfing on the internet, I suddenly discovered there has been a life in the north... I'm terribly ashamed, I must admit I had once or twice been told about danish toys, but except for some Tekno which I didn't really like, I had seen nothing until this incredibly stupendous bus from the Metallo K.A. Birk company.

The base is something that reminds the Graham Paige from the Tootsietoys company; In fact birk's are still referred as copies of the famous Dowt's models but they aren't. Unlike the N.S. models which are over castings of the Tootsietoys, the Birks are an original creation.

K.A. Birk did some other models which really look like the Blue Streak. This bus is splendid for O gauge railway models. Nearby some Dinky Toys cars and figurines, one can only fall under the spell of such a beautiful achievement, the casting is really nicely done and gives entirely the spirit of the thirties. It's a pity that Dinky didn't make toys like this before their "Supertoys" era.

It matches perfectly, it's big, round, yellow and heavy of course, it's made of lead (with a tin plate chassis).
Well, I ran to the east parisian shop where the model stood for sale, and bought it for a very cheap price compared to its rarity. I've been told this has been one of the top collectibles item in the eighties, almost impossible to find. collectors at the time would have give hundreds of pounds to get it.

It's funny to see that many of the top of range toys for the "pioneers of model cars collection" have seen their value tumbling down in a few decades. Even the models of the fifties are starting to become outdated compared to the models of the sixties and the seventies.

Nowadays, nearly forgotten, the K.A. Birk bus makes my happiness.
